Ekhi develops a 1.22 MW photovoltaic self-consumption project for The Natural Fruit Company in Alzira (Valencia).

Ekhi, a company that offers renewable energy services of distributed generation and self-consumption to energy intensive users, has developed a 1.22 MW rooftop photovoltaic self-consumption project in the orange packing facilities of The Natural Fruit Company, in Alzira (Valencia). The installation will allow the company, which specializes in citrus fruits, to save up to 33% in energy costs per year, with an annual production of 1.8 GWh.

The plant consists of 2,120 solar panels of 455 Wp and 580 solar panels of 445 Wp of the Trina Solar brand, which will occupy 5,902m2 of the concealed surface of The Natural Fruit Company's warehouse. This will enable them to achieve their goals of reducing energy costs and CO2 emissions.

The contractual model of the agreement is an On Site PPA, whereby Ekhi will be in charge of installing and distributing the energy and maintaining the installation. The project has been designed for self-consumption without surplus for the company. Upon completion of the agreement in 15 years, the plant will become the property of The Natural Fruit Company until the end of its useful life.

The project has been approved by the Instituto Valenciano de Competitividad Empresarial (IVACE) for a grant of €198,191.00, financed by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU fund line, within the framework of the European Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

How Ekhi will help reduce the carbon footprint of The Natural Fruit Company

After the installation of the solar panels, according to the project study carried out by Ekhi, the fruit processing company will reduce its carbon footprint by 15,020 tons ofCO2 emissions during the useful life of the installation. This figure is equivalent to more than 103,146,803 kilometers traveled by a car or the consumption of 13,511 average Spanish homes during the lifetime of the installation.

Upon completion of the installation, scheduled for the first quarter of 2023, The Natural Fruit Company will be able to save up to 33% annually on its energy costs for the next fifteen years.

Lorenzo Font, managing director of Ekhi, said: "For us this is a very important project that puts us on the map of Spanish self-consumption after our landing as a new player in the market. It is also an example of the strategy that Ekhi will follow to ensure that users achieve their sustainability and cost reduction objectives, accompanying them in their energy transition process. The evolution of self-consumption in Spain allows us to be part of a sector that will experience significant growth in the coming years".
